Abbie Cornish Joining Robocop?

MGM’s upcoming Robocop reboot has certainly been gaining some ground, and looking a great deal more promising, these past couple of weeks; as we’ve not long heard that both Gary Oldman (The Dark Knight) and Samuel L Jackson (Pulp Fiction) have joined the cast, and now Abbie Cornish (Limitless) has been offered a key role.

Implying that the role will be greatly increased from the one we saw in the Paul Verhoeven original, Cornish is set to join the cast as the wife of titular murdered cop Alex Murphy; who’s set to be played by Safe House’s Joel Kinnaman, and quickly finds himself resurrected as the titular cyborg Robocop, for use in the fight against crime in a future, near lawless, Detroit.

Oldman is set to play the creator of Robocop, while Jackson is scheduled to appear as a charismatic TV mogul, in the Jose Padhila (Elite Squad) directed movie, which has been scripted by James Vanderbilt (Zodiac), and is due to begin filming this coming August in Toronto, ahead of an August 2013 release date.
