Alicia Vikander cast as Lara Croft in new Tomb Raider

While rumour had it we were going to see Star Wars: The Force Awakens‘ Daisy Ridley take on the role of video-game to big screen heroine Lara Croft (famously played by Angelina Jolie in the two Tomb Raider films we’ve seen so far), the leading role has actually gone to Ex_Machina star Alicia Vikander.

Due to be directed by Roar Uthaug (The Wave) for Warner Bros. and GK Films, there’s relatively little known about the upcoming Tom Raider reboot, other than the fact it will take a page from the more recent video games and go back to Lara’s early days of tomb raiding (leaving our star/hero in a much more vulnerable place than the battle-tested warrior we were previously used to seeing), and giving Vikander  the task of playing a young Lara, out on her first adventure (where things inevitably go a little swirly).
