Amber Heard (the actress who will soon be appearing in Drive Angry 3D, but remains best known for her appearances in The Stepfather, and Zombieland) has just been cast as one of the lead actresses in a planned NBC TV pilot Playboy; based on one aspect of the infamous adult entertainment business owned by entrepreneur Hugh Heffner.

Playboy won’t go down the obvious, reality TV, route of simply showcasing a bunny’s life living in the mansion with the legendary playboy Heffner, but will be a drama show following fictional characters, and their lives, as they work in a Chicago Playboy Club, set back in 1963.

Heard is due to take on the role of Maureen; a orphan from Fort Wayne who’s stated to be an inquisitive young woman with both a dark past, and an untethered sexuality; who is the club’s newest employee, and will be leading the show alongside Naturi Naughton (Fame); the actress who also played a ‘60s Playboy bunny in Mad Men, and will be starring in the pilot as Maureen’s roommate in the Bunny Dormitory, and a black beauty who’s determined to become Playboy’s first black centerfold.

The pilot has been scripted by Chad Hodge (Runaway), and is due to be directed by Alan Taylor (the same man who directed the pilot for AMC’s extremely successful Mad Men), but as it’s been commissioned by a network TV channel the likelihood is that it will fail to be as raunchy as most of the target audience may have liked (as it could have been on a cable network), and as of yet there’s no telling if it will ever get a full series ordered.
