Attack the Block Gets US Release Date

While the UK saw the release of Attack the Block back in May, there was still no definitive release date set for the US, until now; as after a series of test screenings (to gage audience opinions) Screen Gems have finally announced that they will definitely be releasing the teen sci-fi flick in the States.

Following a group of council estate kids (inner city kids) who find themselves not only hunted by the police, and the young woman they mugged in a South London Tower Block (who’s played by St. Trinian’s star Jodie Whittaker), but also a huge force of invading aliens, that force them to grab weapons, defend their turf, and become the city’s most unlikely saviors.

Also starring Simon Pegg’s (Shaun of the Dead) regular co-collaborator Nick Frost (Hot Fuzz), Attack the Block marks the directing debut of Tintin co-writer Joe Cornish (known in the UK for Adam & Joe), has been winning over audiences with its combination of thrills and comedy, and it’s clear homage to films such as The Goonies, and Gremlins, and hopes to do so when it’s finally released in the US on July 29th; a date that will unfortunately put it in direct competition with Cowboys & Aliens.
