Baldrick Confirms New Blackadder Plans

It may have been 26 years since the classic British sit-com Blackadder ended its initial run (in 1989), but it looks like a reunion could soon be on the cards, as Baldrick himself (known in real life, and on Time Team, as Tony Robinson) recently told The Sun he’s spoken to the cast about potentially filming a new series.

While Tony said he has “spoken to virtually all the cast”, he also admitted a return from the show would risk disappointing its long-term fanbase as “expectations for a new series will be high, because people not only remember the original, they remember who they were when it was on.” Stressing “it’s a big danger.”

Until confirmed by the BBC however it’d be best to take any reunion talk with a pinch of salt, as rumours of a comeback often surface, Tony himself joked Hugh Laurie’s fee could be a stumbling block (the actor’s become a far bigger star since Blackadder aired, and was earning £250,000 per episode while filming House), and Stephen Fry spoke out against a potential Blackadder film in 2012 saying “there’s a lot of feeling that we left it on such a high note that it would be a bad idea to go back.”

And really… could you imagine a new series of Blackadder without an appearance from Lord Flashheart?
