Beverly Hills Cop TV Show Gets Shawn Ryan

While we’d often heard about the possibility of a fourth Beverly Hills Cop movie eventually making it to the big screen, Eddie Murphy confirmed last year that he’d abandoned plans to once again headline a movie as the quick-talking Detroit cop Axel Foley, in favour of producing a Beverly Hills Cop TV show; a show which is still bubbling away, and has just seen Shawn Ryan come aboard.

Best known for creating the brilliant police drama The Shield, Ryan has teamed up with Murphy in the hopes of creating a viable pitch for US TV networks to get behind, though as yet the premise (and everything else) are being kept tightly under wraps, and all we know so far is that Sony Pictures television are backing the show, and that it could end up focussing on Axel’s son.

While not being the focus, Murphy has said he’ll keep popping up in any eventual series (likely as the Detroit police chief), and while pretty much anything is still subject to change at this point, it’s been described as a mixture of a procedural crime show, and a buddy cop affair, and is looking ever-more likely to hit our screens.
