The fact that a Blade Runner sequel is even allowed to happen is a cinematic miracle. It was recently announced that Harrison Ford would be returning as Rick Deckard, and that Sicario and Enemy director Denis Villeneuve will direct. We now have an official release date.
The as-yet-untitled sequel will be released on January 12th, 2018. That gives the spoiler-loving, fun-ruining movie lovers of today plenty of time to speculate, but there are a few things we know for sure: Ryan Gosling is joining Ford this time around, and the movie’s script is based on an original story by the co-writers of the original classic, Ridley Scott and Hampton Francher (Scott will also serve as executive producer). Scott has said the script is, “damn good.”
The movie will begin filming in July.
