Bruce Willis Joining American Assassin

Adapted from the 11th book in Vince Flynn’s successful series, American Assassin follows a young CIA operative named Mitch Rapp, has been adapted for the big screen by Mike Finch, and has just seen Expendables 2 star Bruce Willis enter talks to star in the film.

Should he eventually sign on, Willis will not be playing the titular hero, but an old CIA hand who serves as Mitch’s mentor, when the younger operative joins the agency after his girlfriend falls victim to a terrorist attack.

As of yet there’s no release date set for the film, no lead actor (though the search for the right Rapp will undoubtedly be heating up now), and no director (as both Ed Zwick and Jeffrey Nachmanoff have already dropped out), so it doesn’t look as if American Assassin will be rushed onto our screens; particularly as Bruce will soon be busy promoting the release of the upcoming time-travel movie Looper, and filming Red 2 (with shooting scheduled to begin next month).
