After this year’s Dazed and Confused spirit-sequel Everybody Wants Some!! Richard Linklater has chosen his next film, and added a number of talented actors to the cast-list; including Bryan Cranston (Trumbo), Steve Carrell (Foxcatcher), and Laurence Fishburne (Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice).

The film, an adaptation of Darryl Poniscan’s novel Last Flag Flying, will be a sequel to Poniscan’s 1970 novel The Last Detail, and the 1973 film of the same name; which starred Hal Ashby, Jack Nicholson, and Randy Quaid; and is a film Linklater has been trying to get made for at least 10 years.

As Last Flag Flying follows the same characters; with former Naval petty officers Billy Bad-Ass, Mule, and former prisoner Meadows attempting to help Meadows bring home the body of his son (who died in the Iraq War); Linklater is looking to have the surviving members of the original cast return for the sequel, and is currently looking for both financing and distribution; which could all be provided by Amazon.
