Bryan Singer Directing X-Men: First Class Sequel

When news broke recently that X-Men: First Class director Matthew Vaughn would be stepping down as the director of the planned sequel (X-Men: Days of Future Past), fans of the movie (which we called the best X-Men film so far) were understandably disappointed, but may now find their collective fears alleviated, as original X-Men director Bryan Singer has stepped up to once again helm the X-Men megaphone.

After not only directing the first two X-Men movies, but staying onboard the franchise as a producer (or writer/producer) on every subsequent sequel, prequel, and spin-off, there’s no denying that Singer is clearly the most qualified person to direct Days of Future Past, and with Vaughn staying involved in a producers role, there’s no reason the latest installment of the mutant superhero franchise shouldn’t be every bit as spectacular as its last incarnation.

Scripted by Simon Kinberg (who, rather un-inspiringly, served as a screenwriter on X-Men The Last Stand), if the new movie follows the comic books of the same name it will see the mutant troupe distorting timelines in order to avert a rather nasty possible future, with James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, and Jennifer Lawrence all stepping back into their roles for Days of Future Past, which is due to be released on July 18th 2014 in both the US and UK.
