Channing Tatum to Direct Magic Mike 2

While it may not have been the unadulterated jiggle-fest many ladies were hoping for (at least not according to our review), Magic Mike still proved to be fairly successful at the Box Office (raking in $113M in the US alone, against a mere $7M budget), and as talk of a possible sequel begins to heat up a potential new director has come forward; none other than star Channing Tatum.

As Steven Soderbegh is planning a rest from the directing business it’s unlikely he’d return for the sequel, and as star and producer Channing Tatum already has ideas for the sequel to the film which was loosely based on his early life anyway, he seems to be a perfect fit; though things are far from a done deal at this point.

It’s still not guaranteed that a Magic Mike sequel will even happen (given the studio-pleasing numbers it stands a good chance), but with Tatum looking to work with writer and producer Reid Carolin to get the job done, and throwing the name of Soderbergh’s assistant director (Gregory Jacobs) into the mix of possible directors, as well as possibly turning Magic Mike 2 into a “road movie”, it’s a sequel many girls will be dying to see.
