Charlie Hunnam Could Escape From New York

Charlie Hunnam Pacific RimWith his longstanding run in the FX biker-drama Sons of Anarchy soon to come to an end (the seventh and final season begins airing in the US next weekend), Charlie Hunnam has begun taking on a number of film roles, and not only will he be stepping back into the giant robots vs giant monsters franchise for the now confirmed Pacific Rim sequel, he recently joined the cast of Guy Ritchie’s King Arthur, and is now also the top choice to star in the planned Escape From New York remake.

Whilst still unofficial at this point, Hunnam is apparently topping a wishlist of potential stars which includes Dan Stevens (Downton Abbey), and Jon Bernthal (The Walking Dead star recently seen in The Wolf Of Wall Street), and could soon be seen stepping into the iconic role of Snake Plissken (made famous by Kurt Russell in the John Carpenter original), and attempting to rescue the President of the US from within Manhattan (which, in the future world of Escape From New York, is a giant, walled-off, prison island).

Whilst it’s been rumoured for years, the Escape From New York remake has never gained much ground and always ended up being shelved, but Joel Silver’s production company is apparently trying to push ahead with new plans to realise a film with thinking linked to the recent Batman video-game Arkham City.

Whilst still unofficial, the new details suggest Silver is serious about reviving Escape From New York, and will be looking for a new director to kick-off a potential franchise (the original movie spawned a sequel, Escape From L.A., and there’s been a lot of talk over the years about a third movie; Escape From Earth), but we’ll let you know as and when things develop, as soon as we get an official word on production.
