Cillian Murphy to Lead the Retreat

British actor Cillian Murphy; who’s best know for playing the lead role in Danny Boyle’s spectacular British horror flick 28 Days Later, and Dr. Jonathan Crane (a.k.a The Scarecrow) in both Batman Begins and The Dark Knight; is probably still celebrating the success of his latest movie, Inception, has recently snagged another leading role in the upcoming British horror movie Retreat.

Retreat will place Cillian and his onscreen wife (due to be played by RocknRolla’s Thandie Newton) in a remote island cottage; which they’re renting in a attempt to get away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life, and repair their failing marriage; when a soldier, wearing a biohazard suit, washed up on a beach and informs them that every single person on the mainland has died as a result of a devastating airborne virus.

It’s that point that the psychological thriller/horror really gets going, in a film that was written, and due to be directed, by Alien Vs Predator editor Carl Tibbets, and is described by producer Gary Sinyor (In Your Dreams) as being a cross between a landlocked version of Knife In The Water, and Dead Calm.

Sony Pictures has taken the rights to Retreat in the U.K. (its first British acquisition since last year’s critically acclaimed indie hit Moon, which starred Iron Mans 2’s Sam Rockwell), which is due to begin filming on location in Wales this September, for a probable 2011 release.
