Colin Hanks is Dexter’s New Enemy

While better known for being the son of all-round good guy Tom Hanks, and a bit of a goody-two-shoes himself; usually being cast as a bit of a wet fish, in the likes of Roswell, The Good Guys, and even Band of Brothers; Colin Hanks has just been cast in the principal role of what is believed to be the next major bad guy in Dexter’s upcoming sixth season.

As the recently released teaser trailer for season six (which can now be seen below) infers, Dexter’s bad guys are extremely memorable, usually exceptionally well cast, and serve not only the show, but the fans, and the actors who portray them, extremely well (look at the truly brilliant performance of John Lithgow as the Trinity Killer, and how it’s boosted his career, and the show); meaning there’s a lot of people who will be watching this very closely.

Colin’s season-long arc also brings with it added pressure (on top of attempting to live up to, and possibly best, those that have come before); as the network will undoubtedly be trying to reclaim the glory days of season four, after a slightly waning fifth season (the only season left out of the teaser), and attempting to keep the tightly wrought tension in place (as it’s become a foregone conclusion that Dexter will get out of just about any scrape now, and one of the only big surprises left will be when his sister Deborah learns of his sadistic hobby).

Michael C. Hall (Gamer), Jennifer Carpenter (The Exorcism of Emily Rose), David Zayas (Skyline), Lauren Velez (Oz), and Desmond Harrington (Rescue Me), are all expected to return for season six, which is due to begin airing this fall.

*Update – from TV Line*
It’s since been confirmed that Hanks will play a character named Travis; a highly intelligent expert on ancient artifacts who becomes linked to a series of murders; and will star in each of the series’ twelve episodes, but will not be a traditional bad guy in the same vein as the Trinity Killer; as Showtime’s president David Nevins has confirmed “there’s one interesting story that will move through the season, and it will be cast very interestingly, but it’s not exactly that one person, and it is not one big bad.”
