Widely regarded as one of the greatest war movies ever made, Wolfgang Petersen’s (Troy) Das Boot has now splashed onto Blu-ray for the first time, and in order to celebrate its release we have a clip of the director, and Das Boot star Jurgen Prochnow (The Da Vinci Code), discussing the film at this year’s LA Film Festival, as well as the Blu-ray trailer (part of the same video) available to view below.

A masterfully suspenseful movie, Das Boot was released way back in 1981 (exactly 30 years ago), and told the story of a German U-Boat crew during the Battle of the Atlantic, in World War II; creating an immensely tense and gripping tale that’s easily stood the test of time, and was nominated for an impressive six Academy Awards back in 1982; including Best Director, and Best Cinematography.

Das Boot has been painstakingly remastered from its original negative in order to create the superb picture quality for the Blu-ray release of its director’s cut; which also includes amazing audio, and a wealth of special features on its two-disc set (including a newly filmed retrospective documentary) that’s sure to please any fan of the film.

Das Boot is out now to buy on Blu-ray, and can be ordered direct from Amazon here, or by following the links below the trailer.
