Dead Island Movie in the Works

After hitting the internet and instantly becoming a huge viral sensation; amassing a sensational one million hits, in only 24 hours; the teaser trailer for Techland’s upcoming video-game Dead Island (which can be seen below) caused a huge stir in the movie world; which currently has a number of major studios clamoring for the rights to produce the film version of the zombie epic.

Huge buzz was created; spreading around the globe in minutes; for the emotional trailer that cinematically shows the events leading up to the demise of a young girl, and despite there being no start date for the picture, no talent attached, and no script to speak of, Dead Island has become one of the weekend’s biggest stories as studios battle for the rights to the big-screen adaptation; presenting possible talent attachments and plot-lines to  the producers, in the hope of quickly snagging a deal.

A deal with a prospective studio is expected to be reached within the next couple of weeks, to produce a film which is reported to have a Memento-esque plot; despite the fact that the game will not, and focusses on a more straight-lined tale of survival; in an exotic island hotel that suffers a terrible zombie outbreak overnight.

The release date for the game itself (which is scheduled to be released on X-Box 360, PS3, and for Windows) won’t actually be rolling around until this November (by which time a deal is bound to have been struck, and in all likelihood a script will be underway), but for now the impressive debut trailer (which wasn’t actually made by Techland) can be viewed below.
