Deadwood Creator Finds Heavy Rain

Currently working on HBO’s drama series Luck, David Milch (the man best known for being the writer behind, and creator of, HBO’s impressive, gripping, and curse-word heavy western series Deadwood) appears to have lined up his next project; penning the big-screen adaptation of Heavy Rain.

Heavy Rain is a PS3 exclusive game that’s less about jumping over spike-pits, collecting mushrooms, shooting zombies in the face, re-enacting World War II, or colonizing the ancient world, and more about following a gripping story in a wholly interactive, and totally engrossing, manner that should make for a great transition to the big-screen.

The game is a mystery thriller that follows four different characters, who are all on the trail of an elusive serial killer known as The Origami Killer; a drug-addicted F.B.I. agent, an aging private investigator, insomniac female journalist, and worried father who’s son looks to be the next victim; making it an interesting project for David Milch, as creator David Cage has stated that Heavy Rain’s “not a game about saving the princess or the world, but the question of what is good and what is evil”, focussing heavily on “moral choices.”

Heavy Rain’s movie adaptation is being produced for Warner Bros by Bob Shaye (The Lord of the Rings); who’s fast-tracking the production, believes that “Milch’s ability to create gripping popular drama makes him the perfect partner” for them, and will have Milch begin work on the script as soon as he’s done working on the first season of HBO’s Luck.
