Denis Leary Developing Paramedic Series for Fox

With the dramatic end to his New York firehouse based drama Rescue Me scheduled for later this year (perfectly marking the 10th anniversary of the September 11th attacks), comedian Denis Leary (who stars as Rescue Me’s main character; Tommy Gavin; and has held a number of small movie roles) has signed on to develop a US adaptation of the British series Sirens; based around a group of paramedics.

Provided the half-hour-long series eventually gets the green light, it will mean Leary will have developed a TV series around all three major emergency services (as his first series; The Job; followed a group of cops), although unlike Rescue Me and The Job, the new (as yet untitled) series isn’t being developed as a starring vehicle for Leary, and he is currently attached to only co-write the script (with Traffic Light’s Bob Fisher), and executive produce, at this point.

Should the series get picked up though, it’s highly likely that Leary will make an appearance, though not necessarily as one of the leading men (as the British show followed the lives of three paramedics “who bicker, fight, and shag, their way through the darkly funny maelstrom of their lives”).
