20th Century Fox are not ready to let sleeping dogs lie. With A Good Day to Die Hard doing a damn good job at proving to us that we should let the Die Hard series rest easy as one of the greatest action franchises of all time, they’re now looking to destroy its reputation once and for all with a planned prequel.
Len Wiseman (writer of the Underworld series and director of Live Free or Die Hard) is signing on to direct Die Hard 6, which will focus (probably) on a young John McClane and his career as a cop in gritty 1979 New York. Apparently, the plan is to have both the opening and closing moments showing “a now permanently sleepy-eyed John McClane”, although this is just a rumour.
If the deal is successful, Wiseman will also produce alongside Lorenzo di Bonaventura (producer of the Transformers movies). There are no actors currently in the mix, although Bruce Willis is expected to return for present-day scenes.
