Disney Plan More 3D-Releases

This announcement should come as no surprise to anyone; given the success of the recent 3D re-release of The Lion King (which topped the US Box Office for a number of weeks, has now entered the record books, and is due to be released in the UK this Friday); but Disney has just confirmed plans to theatrically re-release a number of its catalog titles in 3D.

Finding Nemo, Monsters Inc., The Little Mermaid, and Beauty and the Beast (which recently had its 3D Blu-ray release reviewed here), have all been pegged for re-release, with Beauty and the Beast being first to the post; with a 3D release pegged for January 2012.

Nemo will hit cinemas in September 2012, before Monsters Inc. pops up in January 2013 (just before the release of its upcoming prequel), and The Little Mermaid gets its turn in September 2013; with Disney’s Alan Bergman stating that the folks as Disney are “thrilled to give audiences of all ages the chance to experience these beloved tales in an exciting new way with 3-D – and in the case of younger generations, for the first time on the big screen.”
