doctor_who_series_8_peter_capaldi_poster_by_jackardy-d74f96dAfter the exceedingly brief teaser trailer, a few script leaks, and even a rough cut of the first episode of the latest series ending up in the public domain, we’ve now got the first official, full length, trailer for the next series of the BBC’s increasingly popular, family-friendly, sci-fi Doctor Who.

With Peter Capaldi (In The Loop) picking up his role as the titular Time Lord for the first time (or at least the first time where he’ll be the star), the trailer suggests the Doctor will be heading to dark places this time out, wrestling with his conscience, and leaning on his companion Clara (returning star Jenna Coleman) for moral support, as all manner of old and new enemies (including Daleks, Cybermen, dinosaurs, and more) pop up and cause trouble for his latest round of adventures.

Ben Wheatley (Kill List, Sightseers) has directed the first two episodes of the upcoming eighth series, which will consist of 13 episodes in total; with the 75 minute long season premiere (featuring a cameo by previous Doctor Matt Smith, and written by showrunner and executive producer Steven Moffat, of Sherlock fame) scheduled for broadcast on BBC One, on August 23rd. Though eager fans may be able to catch a pre-broadcast showing in Cardiff, on August 7th (as part of the series 8 world tour).
