Gambit Pulled From Fox’s Release Schedule

Things have been looking questionable for the planned X-Men spin-off movie Gambit for sometime now, and ever since director Rupert Wyatt left the film back in September, and replacement Doug Liman (Edge of Tomorrow) only took the helm in November, the planned October 2016 release was looking less and less likely. Fox has now confirmed Gambit will not be released this October, as their recently release-date reshuffle has seen Gambit pulled from the schedule altogether.

Given we’ve not only got Deadpool taking all of the Box Office money available at the moment, but will also soon have X-Men: Apocalypse filling out multiplexes across the country, we’ll still have our fair share of X-Men this year, and it’s unlikely Gambit will stay down too long as buzz for both the film and star Channing Tatum (22 Jump Street) appeared favourable (particularly among X-fans).

Tatum has said Gambit is “not your typical hero… he’s a thief. He walks on the grey”, and given it’s being planned as a stand-alone film which simply ties into the X-Men universe, we also wouldn’t be too surprised to see it come back with an R-rated twist, or some rather dark comedy elements when further info surfaces, and a new release date is officially announced.
