Gavin O’Connor Directing Yakuza

Now best known for directing the superb cage-fighting/brotherly-love drama Warrior, Gavin O’Connor has just signed on to direct an upcoming crime/thriller for Universal, named Yakuza.

Written by Chap Taylor (Changing Lanes), Yakuza will follow an American intelligence expert as he gets involved with a nefarious Japanese gangster, and becomes embroiled in the seedy underworld of a Japan still reeling from the 2011 tsunami, and will first be re-written by O’Connor, before he can eventually find time to start production; though with Neverland (the Peter Pan update starring Channing Tatum) and The Samurai (an adaptation of Walter Tevis’ novel that’s being turned into a stage play) both higher on O’Connor’s agenda, that could be a fair way away.
