Ghostbusters 3 Shooting Next Spring?

It’s been an on-again-off-again story for around 20 years, and now, once again, just when we thought it was never going to happen, Dr. Ray Stantz himself (otherwise known as The Blues Brothers’ Dan Aykroyd) told the listeners of Dennis Miller’s Radio show that not only is he attempting to press forward with Ghostbusters 3, but that it could start filming as early as the coming spring.

So far the main reason for the exceedingly lengthy delays on the ‘Busters third outing has been cited as being down to Bill Murray’s lack of enthusiasm for the project; an issue which may have dragged on too long, and finally led to the rest of the gang looking to press on without him; and although Ghostbusters 3 might be back on the table it doesn’t appear as though he’s changed his mind just yet; since Dan told Miller that “yes, we will be doing the movie” and added that it will be “hopefully with Mr. Murray”, but that “Ghostbusters is bigger than any one component.”

Recognizing that “Billy was absolutely the lead, and contributive to Ghostbusters in a massive way” Aykroyd also remembers the important roles played by “the director [Ivan Reitman (No Strings Attached)], Harold [Ramis, Knocked Up], and Sigourney [Weaver, Paul]” and explained once again that the premise of Ghostbusters 3 will see the old gang getting “to hand the equipment and the franchise down to new blood.”

In the planned third film “Ray is now blind in one eye and can’t drive the Cadillac”, he’s also “got a bad knee and can’t carry the packs, and Egon is too large to get into the harness”; causing the old ‘Busters to pass the torch “to a new generation” of Ghostbusters, which will consist of “three guys and a young woman.”

As for who the four newcomers will be it’s still undecided, as although Dan said he likes “Matthew Gray Gubler from the Criminal Minds show”, he’s also said that “there’s going to be a casting, and we’re going to see everyone that wants to do it”; meaning that all the rumours of stars such as Alyssa Milano, Anna Faris, and Eliza Dushku, appearing are for now still nothing more than rumours, just as the existence of Ghostbusters 3 will remain, until there’s an official announcement made.
