Hugh Jackman Says Wolverine 2 Will Be “Fantastic”

After the X-Men franchise began so promisingly; with a very good movie followed by an excellent film; many fans felt that the third feature was at best, flat, and at worst, an utter disappointment, and felt similarly underwhelmed by the spin-off/prequel picture that focussed on the seres’ most popular hero; Wolverine; but Hugh Jackman (who has played the mutant hero Wolverine since the first X-Men movie was released ten years ago) insists that the Wolverine sequel will be “fantastic.”

More specifically, Hugh states that “[Darren] Aronofsky’s (The Wrestler) going to make it fantastic”, and that unlike the last  film; which was all spectacle, and little substance; “there’s going to be some meat on the bones, and there will be something to think about as you leave the theatre”; confirming both the rumours that Aronofsky would be directing the next installment, and that he’s very excited to be back playing the quick-to-heal, even quicker-to-anger, mutant Logan.

And it sounds like the anger will play a big part in the next movie, as Hugh’s stated that Logan is “kind of dark” and definitely “not Popeye”, and that the new film will feature a real “change of pace” for the character, that Aronofsky’s moody style should compliment perfectly.

The script has been written by Chris McQuarrie (The Usual Suspects); which Hugh believes gives “a good clue” into how different the new film will be; and clearly has Hugh very excited, as he’s insisting that not only is Wolverine 2 “going to be very different” to everything that has come before, but that “it’s going to be the best one.”

Filming is due to kick off next March; and will take place in both New York, and Japan; but as of yet there are no details available to suggest an official release date (the film was originally slated for release next year, but now it’s much more likely to be 2012), although film fans will still be able to get their dose of mutant action by watching X-Men: First Class, which is due for release next summer.
