Based on the true story which inspired the legendary tale of Moby Dick, and coming from director Ron Howard (Rush), In The Heart Of The Sea will tell the true tale of the now infamous whaling ship ‘Essex’, and has just had a new poster, and official trailer released (both available to view below).

Nathaniel Philbrick’s best-selling book (In the Heart of the Sea: The Tragedy of the Whaleship Essex) forms the basis for the movie, which stars Chris Hemsworth (Avengers: Age of Ultron) as the veteran first mate of the Essex; a New England whaling vessel which journeyed into the ocean in the winter of 1820, and battled an unbelievably large whale with an almost human sense of vengeance to match its mammoth size.

Going further than the Moby Dick tale, by telling the harrowing aftermath of the deadly encounter; where the surviving men were pushed to the limit, stranded in the open sea, forced to do the unthinkable to survive, and still yearning to bring the great whale down; In The Heart Of The Sea co-stars Benjamin Walker (Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter), Cillian Murphy (The Dark Knight Rises), and Ben Whishaw (Skyfall) as the remaining captain and crew of the Essex.

Also co-starring Brendan Gleeson (Edge of Tomorrow) and Tom Holland (The Impossible), In The Heart Of The Sea has been scripted by Charles Leavitt (Blood Diamond), and is due to be released on December 11th in the US, before making its official UK release date on December 26th.
