Hoping to somewhat soften the blow dealt by learning that, despite early talks, Michael Keaton will not be playing the next Spider-Man villain, we now know Robert Downey Jr.’s Tony Stark/Iron Man will appear in Spider-Man: Homecoming.

The new incarnation of Spider-Man (which now shares portion of rights/control between Marvel Studios and Sony) will first appear in Captain America: Civil War; where newcomer Tom Holland will be interacting with, and supporting, Tony Stark; before taking to web-slinging in a Jon Watts (Cop Car) directed movie which will thankfully skip the hero’s usually obligatory origin story.

Co-starring Marisa Tomei (My Cousin Vinny star, and a rather young/strong choice for the usually frail and elderly Aunt May), Spider-Man: Homecoming is due to begin filming this June, ahead of a July 7, 2017 release date.
