J. Edgar Trailer

Coming from director Clint Eastwood (Million Dollar Baby) J. Edgar is the upcoming biopic of the FBI’s most famous director (and its founder); J. Edgar Hoover; starring Leonardo DiCaprio (Catch Me If You Can) in the titular role, and has just had its first trailer released online over at Apple (now available to view below).

Following J. Edgar from his early beginnings; as he was pushed to greatness by a strict mother (Judi Dench, Casino Royale); to his early days at the FBI, where he became the face of US law enforcement, amassed a number of friends and enemies, and surrounded himself with a loyal staff; including right-hand-man Clyde Tolson (Armie Hammer, The Social Network), and handy secretary Helen Grandy (Naomi Watts, The Ring); and beyond, Clint’s latest movie seems to be every bit the Oscar bait he usually produces, and not without its fair share of controversy.

While many fans have been hoping to see Leonardo DiCaprio cross-dressing in the trailer, and film itself, as that part of Hoover’s life is still open to debate it may not even be addressed, but what is addressed is how Hoover’s power clearly went to his head; causing him to become paranoid, controlling, and abuse his power by gathering dirt on some of the most influential people in the country (including those named Roosevelt and Kennedy) in order help push his agenda through.

J. Edgar will co-star Stephen Root (Dodgeball), Dermot Mulroney (Zodiac), Jeffrey Donovan (Burn Notice), Josh Lucas (A Beautiful Mind), Lea Thompson (Back to the Future), and Ed Westwick (Gossip Girl), when it’s released on November 9th in the US, before making its UK release date on January 20th next year.
