Jackie Chan awarded honorary Oscar

jackie-chan-oscar-01A true cinema legend, Jackie Chan has a career spanning five decades, over 200 films under his belt, and is a true household name, but he’s never won an Academy Award, until now – as the Academy Of Motion Picture Arts And Sciences has just granted Chan a lifetime achievement award at the annual Governor’s Ball.

You can see Chan’s moving, gracious, and clearly heartfelt, acceptance speech in the video below.

Tom Hanks also noted how the Academy often overlooks the type of films Jackie Chan is known for – martial arts and action/comedies – and touched on a number of reasons why Jackie Chan is so well known, so well liked, and has had such a successful career during his 56 years in the film industry.

The 89th Academy Awards, otherwise known as the Oscars, will take place on 26 February 2017.
