James Bond 23 is Titled Skyfall

It’s not exactly a surprise (as the internet had been awash with rumours stating as much since Sony Pictures and MGM purchased various domain names involving the title) but the official title for the upcoming Bond 23 has now been confirmed as… Skyfall.

Sam Mendes (American Beauty) has picked up directing duties for Bond’s latest outing; which will once again see Daniel Craig reprising his role as the world’s most famous spy, and Judi Dench appearing as his boss M, in a movie which is apparently “its own story” (according to Mendes), and not a Quantum of Solace sequel.

Skyfall’s recent press release states that the film will see “Bond’s loyalty to M is tested to the full as her past comes back to haunt her” and “as MI6 comes under attack, 007 must track down and destroy the threat, no matter how personal the cost”; a tale that isn’t related to any previous Ian Fleming or other known Bond property.

Craig and Dench will also be joined this time round by Naomie Harris (28 Days Later); as a field agent named Eve (not, as rumours suggested, Miss Moneypenny); French newcomer Bérénice Marlohe; as a “glamourous, enigmatic, character” who happens to be the new Bond-girl; Javier Bardem (No Country for Old Men); as the latest Bond villain; Ralph Fiennes (Schlinder’s List), and James Remar (Dexter), in the film which Mendes insists will have “lots of action.”

Bond 23 is scheduled to begin filming tomorrow (Monday, November 7th), and will send James Bond to China, Shanghai, Istanbul, and Scotland, before Skyfall makes its official UK release date on October 26th 2012, before being released in the US on November 9th 2012.
