James Mangold to Direct The Wolverine

We’ve already had three X-Men movies forming the original trilogy, a spin-off, and a prequel which is still doing the rounds at cinemas nationwide, but it would appear that we’ve far from had our fill of the mutant superheroes, as Fox has just hired James Mangold to direct the sequel to it’s spin-of movie; The Wolverine.

Having previously directed Knight and Day for Fox, Mangold made it onto a short list of directors that were being considered for the highly coveted job; a job which only became open when Darren Aronofsky (Black Swan) left the film in March; and will now look to start shooting The Wolverine this fall.

For a time it looked as if a fall shoot would be unlikely, as the new movie takes place mainly in Japan (where recent earthquakes and tsunami’s have left the country reeling), however it looks as if they’re still ploughing ahead, and aim to have the Chris McQuarrie (The Usual Suspects) scripted film in production this aumtumn, for a release that was originally scheduled for next year, but will more than likely be delayed until 2013.
