Joe Dante, director of horror comedy classics Gremlins and Piranha, has lined up his next proejct, a supernatural thriller titled Labarintus.

According to Variety, “Labarintus follows a paranormal investigator and a psychiatric reseacher, as they team up to explore an abandoned subterranean Soviet research facility, hidden within Hungary’s Budapest Labyrinth, the dark twisting catacombs beneath Buda Castle. When supernatural forces confound and torment the group, they begin to question their own sanity. To escape they must quash their fears and lead their team to find and destroy the dark heart of the maze.”

There are no casting details to announce yet, but despite its questionable title, it looks promising. Dante has been quiet for a while now, with his last outing being the pretty poor Burying the Ex last year. But with 2010’s The Hole, Dante proved that he’s still able to create incredibly enjoyable horror films, so we’ll keep our fingers crossed.
