Joel Kinnaman Talks Robocop

It’s had a rocky road to production, and still many hardcore fans aren’t convinced that the world needs another Robocop movie (given the success of Paul Verhoeven’s 1987 original), but new star Joel Kinnaman (The Killing) recently spoke out not only defending the new take on the classic film, but declaring his love for the original movie.

Speaking about the 1987 Robocop, Kinnaman said “I love it”, and the “special tone” achieved by the Verhoeven film, but added that the upcoming remake; which is due to be directed by Jose Padilha (Elite Squad); “is a re-imagining of it” and is “not going to have that special tone”, although “there are some details and throwbacks.”

Kinnaman also added that the “re-imagining” is “a much better acting piece for Alex Murphy, especially when he’s Robocop” and will be “much more challenging” than Peter’s Weller’s role first time out, partially down to the re-imagining of Robocop’s iconic suit; “it’s not going to be jaw-action. They’re still working on the suit and how it’s going to look, but the visor is going to be see-through. You’re going to see his eyes.”
