John Singleton to Direct Ice Cube’s NWA Biopic?

A good deal of time has already passed since Ice Cube announced his plans to produce a biopic based on the NWA (the rap group Niggaz With Attitude; which Ice Cube was a member of), and although he’s joined a number of other projects since, it seems as if he’s still looking to move ahead with the film, and now has John Singleton in talks to direct.

Singleton previously directed Ice cube in the extremely well received Boyz N The Hood, has just finished working with Twilight’s Taylor Lautner on Abuduction, and seems to be the perfect fit for the Compton-based movie; which he recently said has a “script that’s really, really, good.”

Like any good music-based biopic there’s plenty of drama involved in the NWA story; including Ice Cube’s own unfriendly split from the group, and the more recent death of Easy E; and there seems to be enough of a draw to ensure that “New Line really wants to make it” (according to Singleton); though Singleton’s involvement isn’t yet fully secured, and there’s always a chance that Dr Dre, DJ Yella, and MC Ren could try and get involved, or even stop production, in order to avoid seeing the release of an NWA movie told solely from Cube’s point of view.
