John Williams Leaves Bridge Of Spies

Legendary composer John Williams has scored almost every one of director Steven Spielberg’s feature films (with The Color Purple, Twilight Zone: The Movie, and Duel being the only exceptions), but has now left production of Spielberg’s upcoming movie Bridge Of Spies due to “a minor health issue, now corrected.”

Thomas Newman (a man with credits as diverse as Skyfall and Wall.E, bolstering his CV) has stepped in to bridge the gap, and in order to further soften the blow of Williams’ departure Spielberg has released the first official picture from the film (below).

Starring Tom Hanks as James Donovan, Bridge Of Spies will tell the tale of a lawyer who was thrust into the heart of the Cold War when he was hired to negotiate the release of Gary Powers from the USSR (after his U2 spy plane was shot down over Russia), will co-star Alan Alda (The Blacklist) and Amy Ryan (Birdman), and is due to be released on October 9th in the UK, before making its official US release date on October 16th.
