Johnny Depp Tackling Triple Frontier

Black Mass Johnny Depp 02

While Johnny Depp will soon be stepping back into the guise of Cap’n Jack Sparrow for the 5th Pirates of the Caribbean movie, the praise he received playing James ‘Whitey’ Bulger in Black Mass must have spurred him on to tackle some tougher roles; as Depp has entered early talks to star in the upcoming crime thriller Triple Frontier.

Due to be directed by J.C. Chandon (A Most Violent Year), and scripted by Mark Boal (The Hurt Locker), there’s no official synopsis for Triple Frontier as yet; though it’s set to involve smuggling, and refers to the trip-border between Paraguay, Argentina, and Brazil (a known hive for organised crime and terrorist activity – largely as Paraguay has no anti-terrorism laws).

There’s also no start date, release date, or other cast members (rumoured or otherwise) known at this point, and even Depp has officially signed on. Nevertheless, it’s an interesting prospect, and great to see Depp continuing to choose more darker roles.
