Johnny English 2 Announced

Nobody ever thought that a collection of spoof adverts (especially one about a credit card) would make it into a big screen comedy, let alone receive a sequel, but now, roughly twenty years after his first TV appearance, the Barclaycard agent will once again be making a comeback, in the form of Johnny English 2.

It’s been seven years since the first Johnny English movie hit our screens and, despite it’s rather mixed reviews, grossed over $160 million worldwide (but then Rowan Atkinson has never been an especially speedy worker; there were ten years between the MR. Bean movies, and three years between the first and second series of Blackadder), but apparently now the public has asked to once again see Johnny English (renamed from Barclaycard’s Richard Latham), and his sidekick Bough (Ben Miller, The Parole Officer), save the day, and Universal have answered that call.

There’s no official word on script details, or any cast members bar Rowan Atkinson yet (although it’s a pretty safe bet that Ben Miller will be reprising his role as Bough), but it seems like the wheels are now truly in motion; Oliver Parker (the director of the two most recent St Trinian’s movies) will be directing the spy spoof, and the script has already been written by Hamish McColl (the writer behind Mr. Bean’s Holiday); meaning that we should definitely be expecting to see Mr. English back on cinemas screens sometime in the near future.
