Following the September 11th terrorist attacks in 2001, something bizarre happened a lot of people probably aren’t aware of until now: Michael Jackson, Elizabeth Taylor and Marlon Brando were on a road trip together from New York to Ohio in an effort to get home. Sky Arts thought this was great material for a one-off drama, which will star Joseph Fiennes (Shakespeare In Love) as Jackson, Stockard Channing (Grease) as Taylor and Brian Cox (Troy) as Brando.

News of the strange trip was brought to light by Vanity Fair in 2011. Apparently, Jackson invited the actors to one of his concerts at Madison Square Garden. After the attacks happened, air travel out of New York was cancelled, so the trio rented a car for their trek back to California. According to a former employee of Jackson, “They actually got as far as Ohio – all three of them, in a car they drove themselves.” The story might not be completely true though: one of Taylor’s assistants told Vanity fair that she stayed behind in New York following the tragedy to visit Ground Zero and pray in a church.

The script will be written by Neil Forsyth and directed by Ben Palmer (The Inbetweeners Movie), with release dates yet to be announced.
