Last Airbender Wins Landslide Victory at The Razzies

Last night the major Hollywood studios did their best to ignore the 31st Golden Raspberry Awards (more commonly known as the Razzies); a ceremony which is held annually, one day before the Academy Awards, to call attention to the worst films, actors, actresses, and directors, of the previous years; a ceremony where M. Night Shyamalan’s latest movie, The Last Airbender, emerged as a clear ‘winner’.

As per usual it doesn’t appear as though anyone turned up to personally accept their award (unlike the gracious Sandra Bullock, who collected her award with a good sense of humour last year, before collecting an Oscar the following night), but if they had, the crew of The Last Airbender would have spent most of the night on stage; having racked up a depressing 5 awards, including the disheartening Worst Film, the damning Worst Director, and the brand new award for Worst Eye-Gouging Mis-use of 3D.

Coming in a close second was the critically panned Sex and the City 2; which walked away with 3 awards for Worst Actress (which was given as a combined award for the entire troupe), Worst Screen Ensemble, and Worst Sequel; while the avoided Worst Actor and Worst Supporting Actress awards went to Ashton Kutcher (for Killers, and Valentine’s Day) and Jessica Alba (for Valentine’s Day, Machete, Little Fockers, and The Killer Inside Me).

And while a Razzie isn’t exactly an award that any actor, director, screenwriter, or studio, wishes to see bestowed upon them or their film, everyone will be glad to enjoy a much more praise heavy night tonight, at the 83rd Academy Awards (the Oscars to most people); which will aim to honour the best films of 2010.
