It’s easily one of the most anticipated films of the year, and in order to keep everyone’s collective appetite whetted, a new image from The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey (the first part in Peter Jackson’s upcoming Lord of the Rings prequel) has recently been released online, and is now available to view below, followed by the film’s official trailer.

While the first image is a shot of Bilbo and a handful of dwarfs with some food, fans of the book, and Lord of the Rings trilogy, looking at the second image will instantly recognise the sword being held by the titular hobbit Bilbo Baggins (who’ll be played by The Office’s Martin Freeman this time around) as the iconic Sting (which eventually found its way into the hands of Frodo for his adventures); which in being held in a pose much more serious than you would usually find the floundering Bilbo in.

With plenty of Lord of the Rings returning cast members (including Ian McKellen, Ian Holm, Cate Blanchett, Hugo Weaving, Elijah Wood, Andy Serkis, Christopher Lee, and Orlando Bloom), and a number of new faces; including Richard Armitage (Spooks), Luke Evans (The Three Musketeers), and Evangeline Lily (Real Steel); The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey is due to be released on December 14th in both the US and UK, before the second and final part (The Hobbit: There and Back Again) makes its release date on December 13th next year.
