Lego Movie creators helm Star Wars Han Solo solo prequel

But will it answer finally who shot first?!

A pretty cool announcement just before San Diego Comic Con kicks off – The The Lego Movie & 21 Jump Street creators Phil Lord & Chris Miller will direct a spin-off prequel film as part of the Star Wars Anthology series all about everyone’s favourite thief, smuggler and Millenium Falcon pilot Han Solo! The pair join the long time franchise writing team of the Kasdan Brothers as they chart the younger rogue turned Rebellion leader’s rise to right before he meets Luke Skywalker & Obi Wan in Episode IV: a New Hope.

In the announcement, Lord & Miller stated “This is the first film we’ve worked on that seems like a good idea to begin with. We promise to take risks, to give the audience a fresh experience, and we pledge ourselves to be faithful stewards of these characters who mean so much to us. This is a dream come true for us. And not the kind of dream where you’re late for work and all your clothes are made of pudding, but the kind of dream where you get to make a film with some of the greatest characters ever, in a film franchise you’ve loved since before you can remember having dreams at all.” What lovely blokes eh? And you couldn’t really think of two better guys to give this a shot.

No idea on who is meant to play the younger Han yet but the film is expected to be released on May 25th 2018.
