Despite years and years of rumours about a potential fifth film in the Lethal Weapon franchise (the epitome of the ‘buddy cop’ genre film), the formula is instead moving to television, courtesy of a FOX TV pilot which has just cast Damon Wayans (Major Payne) in the role of Roger Murtaugh (Danny Glover’s role from the films).

With the pilot due to be directed by McG (Terminator Salvation), and written by Matt Miller (Forever), it’s expected to closely follow the 1987 film; where a depressed rogue cop named Martin Riggs (an as yet upcast part famously filled by Mel Gibson in the film franchise) is partnered with a near-retirement age detective (Roger) who’s supposed to be avoiding stress.

There’s still no word on exactly when we’ll see the Lethal Weapon TV series, or who else will end up joining the cast, but it’s following a trend of films moving to the small screen; as we’re soon to see Rush Hour, Frequency, Taken, and Training Day all end up on the goggle box.
