Marion CotillardWhile Michael Fassbender (X-Men: Days Of Future Past) has been confirmed for a while, we’re seeing a real shift in momentum with the planned big screen adaptation of Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed video game; as not only do we now have an officially confirmed release date, but word that Marion Cotillard (The Dark Knight Rises) has just joined the production.

While it’s still unclear exactly which of the game’s characters Fassbender will be playing, we will see him portraying an everyman type who finds himself kidnapped by a mysterious corporation who force him to relive the memories of his ancestors (who happen to be assassins) in order to locate certain artefacts.

It’s also unclear who Cotillard will be playing, although it has been suggested she’ll be a returning character should the Justin Kurzel (The Snowtown Murders) directed film prove successful enough to spawn a franchise when it’s released on December 21st 2016 in the US, ahead of an official UK release date on December 30th 2016.
