Marion Cotillard Joins Rust and Bone

Marion Cotillard’s profile has been steadily growing over the past couple of years; since appearing alongside Johnny Depp in Public Enemies, Leonardo DiCaprio in Inception, joining an impressive cast in Contagion, and scoring a key role in Christopher Nolan’s upcoming Batman finale, The Dark Knight Rises; and looks to continue as she’s just joined Jacques Audiard’s next project; Rust and Bone.

Best known for his stirring prison drama A Prophet, Audiard’s new movie (which has seen him once again join forces with A Prophet co-writer Thomas Bidegain) is adapted from a collection of short stories by Craig Davidson, set in a world of sex, addiction, gambling, and prizefighting.

The Rust and Bone short story follows a boxer who, after suffering from broken finger bones, is forced to make a living by competing in less-than legal fights, though there’s no official word on exactly which of Davidson’s shorts will form the focus of the film; which is also due to star Matthias Schoenarts (Black Book), Celine Sallette (Hereafter), and Bouli Lanners (Eldorado), and will begin filming in France (for 14 weeks) within the next few months.
