Matthew McConaughey May Play a Villain in The Dark Tower

The news that an adapation of Stephen King’s fantasy series The Dark Tower is in the works has had genre fans foaming at the mouth ever since it was announced. With casting details being scarce, there now seems to be something worth talking about: according to The Wrap, Matthew McConaughey has entered “early talks” to play the main villain in the first instalment.

Nikolaj Arcel (A Royal Affair) will direct the film, from a script written by himself, Akiva Goldsman, Anders Thomas Jensen and Jeff Pinkner. The series follows gunslinger Roland Deschain, who is on a quest to find the elusive Dark Tower which is said to be at the centre of all space and time and protect it from the forces of evil. The character McConaughey is rumoured to be playing is The Man in Black, a sorcerer who crosses paths with Deschain.

Sony will be producing the cinematic adaptations of the novels, while MRC will be developing a television production, turning the series of books into a franchise.

The Dark Tower will be released on January 13, 2017.
