Mel Gibson Directing Hacksaw Ridge

Mel GibsonAfter a bit of a downturn, Mel Gibson’s career is showing clear signs of improvement (having appeared in How I Spent My Summer Vacation, Machete Kills, and The Expendables 3 over the past couple of years), and has now entered talks to direct the upcoming real-life drama Hacksaw Ridge.

Braveheart writer Randall Wallace has scripted the film which will tell the true story of WWII army medic Desmond T. Doss, who refused to kill during the battle of Okinawa yet earned a Medal of Honor for valour and saving lives during the battle (marking the first time a conscientious objector was awarded the honour).

Should he eventually sign on, Hacksaw Ridge would mark a Braveheart reunion for Mel and Wallace, Gibson’s first directing job since Apocalypto, and could also be his first collaboration with Andrew Garfield; as The Amazing Spider-Man star has also entered talks to take on the lead role.
