Coming from writer/director Lars Von Trier (Dancer in the Dark), Melancholia is an unusual psychological drama, about not only one of the most miserable onscreen weddings seen in film, but also the end of the world, and has just had its first official trailer released online (which in now available to view below).

Kirsten Dunst (Spider-Man) and Alexander Skarsgard (True Blood) star as Justine and Michael respectively; a couple who are celebrating their wedding at the home of Justine’s sister and brother-in-law (played by Antichrist’s Charlotte Gainsbourg and 24’s Keifer Sutherland respectively), but have not only family squabbles and a general state of unhappiness to worry about, but a recently discovered planet named Melancholia, which threatens to destroy the entire planet.

Also starring Charlotte Rampling (The Duchess), John Hurt (Alien), Stellan Skarsgard (Good Will Hunting), Udo Kier (Blade), and Jesper Christensen (Casino Royale), Melancholia will be first released in Scandinavia (in May), before getting its UK release on July 1st, and then making its over across the Atlantic for a release in both the US and Canada, at as an yet unconfirmed date.
