Merlin Movie in Development

Since Paramount Pictures no longer hold the rights for T.A. Barron’s young adult novel; The Lost Years of Merlin; Warner Bros. have stepped in and picked up the option to create a film based on the early years of the legendary wizard; clearly hoping to have found a successor to their insanely successful Harry Potter franchise.

Warner’s new Merlin movie will give audiences a new origin story for the wizard; that will find the young sorcerer washed up in Wales, with no memory of who he is or how he came to be there, and struggling to master his magical powers before growing up to become the man that King Arthur would rely upon so heavily.

There’s no release date, start date, or director attached, as of yet, but Warner Bros will undoubtedly be keen to get it off the ground as soon as possible, and have hired Ed Whitworth (a script reader for Harpo Productions) to pen the script for the film that’s due to combine the first two books into one epic movie, is being produced by Donald De Line (Green Lantern), and will hopefully be the next big franchise for Warner.
