Michael Haneke’s has been pretty quiet since 2012, which saw the release of his critically acclaimed love story Amour. He’ll be shooting his new film Happy End, in France’s Calais region next spring. We don’t know much about the movie yet, but from what’s been announced so far plus the film’s location, we can be pretty certain of a few aspects.

Calais has been making headlines this year as a refugee hotspot, as the place serves as a ferry port to the UK. There is also a series of camps there called the “Calais Jungle”. According to Deadline, one of the Happy End‘s themes is that of immigration, although it apparently won’t be the main focus. We can also now confirm that the movie will feature Amour stars Jean-Louis Trintignant and Isabelle Huppert.

Haneke has been directly involved in the refugee crisis, being one of the thousands of film industry figures to sign the petition called “For a Thousand Lives: Be Human”. The petition called on the EU to help the refugees and offer legal ways for them to seek protection in Europe, which could stop them from taking illegal routes and risking their lives.
