While the story of how the Oxford English Dictionary came into existence may, at first, sound like a bit of a dull tale, the reality is actually a stranger-than-fiction tale which is being adapted into a new movie starring Sean Penn and Mel Gibson, and has just seen Game Of Thrones star Natalie Dormer added to the cast list.

Adapted from the Simon Winchester bestselling book, The Professor And The Madman will see Gibson (who’s been trying to get this film made since 1998) playing Professor James Murray; the man who began compiling the Oxford English Dictionary in 1857; and Penn staring as Dr. W.C. Minor, a man who submitted 10,000 entires for the dictionary, whilst he was an inmate at an asylum for the criminally insane.

Dormer is set to play the widow of one of Minor’s victims (who eventually began a complicated romance with the doctor), in the film which is set to be written and directed by Farad Safina (Apocalypto), and is due to begin filming later this month.
